Making the Transition to Civic Engagement: Shifting Student and Faculty Mindsets about Civic Learning in a Transition to Higher Education Course
This panel focuses on the implementation of a civic learning requirement in a General Education “Introduction to Higher Education” course at Cal State LA. Session attendees will participate in an activity that takes them through the steps to design a civic learning assignment. Faculty can sometimes find it challenging to create civic learning assignments that also meet disciplinary learning outcomes. The panel addresses the issue of how to integrate civic learning into course content, assignments, and activities to avoid the common problem of treating it as an add-on.
