A Summary of Myths and Misconceptions Surrounding Student Ratings

Improving teaching effectiveness is a priority in higher education for both administrators and faculty, yet when faced with student feedback about teaching there exists much confusion about the validity, reliability, and use of student feedback data. This talk will attempt to explain how to effectively use student feedback, as well as address some of the more popular myths and misconceptions surrounding student ratings such as impact of student biases, validity and reliability issues, and effect of faculty personality.
