W3 - Co-Curricular Assessment and Program Review to Demonstrate Learning and Quality
The student experience outside the classroom is a significant factor in college student success. Institutions have made progress in assessing the academic experience but have not necessarily applied this level of attention and intentionality to the nonacademic experience. How is your institution fostering student learning and development throughout their entire undergraduate experience? How are you documenting the impact of programs and services on student success? Can you provide evidence of learning and commitment to continuous improvement based on the results of inquiry, evidence, and evaluation in the co-curriculum? This workshop will equip you with the ability to implement and/or build on existing assessment and program review efforts to demonstrate learning and quality in nonacademic programs and services.
Margaret Leary serves as the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Programs at the University of San Diego. Among other responsibilities, she coordinates assessment and strategic planning efforts for the student affairs division, facilitates the development and implementation of living-learning communities, and supports institutional assessment and retention efforts. After earning a BS in Accountancy from Villanova University, Margaret began her professional career as a CPA in public accounting. She returned to Villanova to earn her MS in Counseling and Human Relations and begin her career in higher education. Before arriving at USD, she gained experience in residential life, counseling, and other areas in student affairs from Villanova University, Arcadia University, University of the Pacific, and Dartmouth College. Margaret is an alumna of the WSCUC Assessment Leadership Academy and has presented on co-curricular assessment and program review at national and regional conferences such as NASPA, ACPA, WSCUC ARC, and Academic Impressions.
